According to OnePoll, nearly 45 percent of Americans make New Year’s resolutions to start and stick with an exercise program.

U.S. News and World Report notes that by mid-February, nearly 80 percent of Americans either taper off or completely abandon their resolutions.

Tori Thompson, co-owner and certified personal trainer at The Body Firm Personal Training Studio in Ahwatukee, shared several common reasons why people struggle to maintain their fitness resolutions.

“Every year, individuals come up with familiar excuses,” Thompson said. “They often lack motivation and accountability. Additionally, they may have unrealistic expectations and desire quick results.

“Many say they don’t have the time to commit to a fitness program, find their gym too crowded, or feel uncertain about what to do, which ultimately leads them to give up.”

Thompson added, “We see an influx of new clients at the start of each year, and we’re proud that we don’t completely experience the typical decline during the February/March period.”

Sandy Johnson, a certified and long-time personal trainer for the Body Firm, said the studio’s business structure is designed to help clients transform fitness into a lifestyle rather than just a box to check off.

“We have counteractions to address most of the reasons why people give up,” Johnson said. “We understand there isn’t a ‘one-size-fits-all’ solution, so we provide various options for working out.

“You can choose to work out with a certified trainer in either a private or semiprivate session. Additionally, our functional circuit/open gym allows you to exercise while a trainer is available to answer questions or assist with your form.”

Body Fitness’ sessions all require an appointment, which can be conveniently booked online.

“We’ve found that people are more likely to show up and work out when they have an appointment,” Johnson said. “Someone is expecting you to be there.”

Thompson added, “With those types of setups, we can offer a variety of ways for a person to work out, assist with accountability, and since we limit each session to only six clients, eliminate overcrowding.”

Every Body Firm client receives a personalized workout plan tailored to their goals and fitness levels.

The presence of a trainer ensures they exercise safely with proper form, making their workout sessions both effective and efficient.

“The workouts change weekly, which helps keep our clients engaged. It also promotes muscle confusion, an effective method for building muscle tone, increasing functional strength, and burning fat,” said Johnson.

Thompson added, “The fitness studio is open seven days a week and most holidays.

While we can’t eliminate all the reasons people abandon their fitness goals, we do our best to set them up for success.”

The Body Firm Personal Training Studio is located at 3636 E. Ray Road, Ahwatukee, and has been locally owned and operated since 2007.
