Since I was sixteen years old, I?ve suffered with extreme back pain due to three herniated disks after a bad horseback riding accident. Over the years I?ve tried everything short of surgery, including 9 epidurals, chiropractors, and too many physical therapy sessions to count. Additionally, anytime I began a workout program the ending result was me icing my back and unable to continue. Two months ago after extensive research I located The Body Firm. In order to maintain a healthy and fulfilling life I needed the expertise of trainers specializing in individuals with a detailed understanding of developing a program for someone like me, someone with a debilitating back injury. After meeting with Doug Thompson, I knew I had found the place for me. Now, after two months of training not only have I stuck with the training program (a first for me), I?m stronger and more fit than I have been in years. Further, although I?ll always struggle with back pain, that pain along with other joint pain has decreased significantly. Doug constantly reminds me while I am working out to ?tighten my abs and tilt my pelvis?, both needed to protect my back and develop a strong core. Much thanks to Doug and his team at the Body Firm! Over a 20 year period, I have struggled with low back pain that has taken me through many phases and has caused me to give up exercising as I once knew it. While I basically stopped moving over the last 5 years because everything hurt, I knew the only way to really stop hurting and conquer this problem was to get back in a gym, but not alone and not just any gym. I knew the answer was in finding expert training from someone who really understood how to individualize an exercise program to the needs of each person. I felt certain that with the proper guidance, personalized help and perseverance, anyone could change their circumstances and be fit again. The Body Firm proved to be the missing link for my long overdue, wellness plan. After meeting with staff and listening to their approach, I was confident his program was the real thing. They listen and work behind the scene preparing specialized work-outs, tailored to meet the needs of each client. They also recognize my need for a slow and gradual approach. My flexibility, mobility and strength improve with every visit. The trainers train, they focus on the task at hand and provide the attention needed. As a fifty-something active adult, my goal in having a trainer centered around being able to remain active and proficient in the sports I enjoy -- especially golf, tennis and wake-boarding. The Body Firm has taken me through a balanced regimen of upper and lower body strengthening but with particular focus on improving my core strength and increasing my flexibility, balance and endurance. As a result I am performing better, playing longer and I am much less prone to injury. Many of the exercises I am coached through are golf related and the results speak for themselves. I am longer off the tee and, to my golf coach's surprise I am more in tune with my body and its motions. I feel more in control overall. I enjoy the constant variety in my exercise regimen and I am always pleased to open a copy of a golf magazine or turn on the Golf Channel and see an exercise touted that The Body Firm has had me doing for months. I may not have the natural ability I had at twenty, but what's left is in a lot better shape -- and The Body Firm is certainly part of the formula! Alan (training since 2006) |

I can't believe that I'm into my 4th month of training! Typically by this point, despite how careful I am, the chronic issue I have with my right shoulder flares up and sidelines my program for months. The difference this time is the comprehensive approach you outlined for managing this issue during my training: -First, the pre-hab exercises you taught me have helped to safely and gradually strengthen my rotator cuff. -Second, adopting the correct form during exercise-the positioning of my shoulder in relation to my body-has allowed me to train the right way. -Third, modifying some of the exercises so that I could safely rebuild strength and stability without re-injury. -Finally, the stretching and muscle release techniques at the end of each session have helped to relax the muscles Over the past 10 years I have worked with physical therapists, chiropractors and stretch therapists trying to resolve this issue. I joined the Body Firm 18 months ago and can honestly say that I?ve never been fitter and stronger. I was a member at a high-end health club for several years, and although I trained on a regular basis, I was never able to reach this level of fitness. I was somewhat hesitant about walking in to The Body Firm at first. I was in my mid 50?s, fat and unfit. I thought I would be prejudged for the way I looked, and not taken seriously about my fitness goals. But, I was very much mistaken and pleasantly surprised at the friendly environment and competent staff. Doug, Sandy, and occasionally Ryan have worked with me toward my fitness goals. They are attentive, encouraging, and have designed a changing, challenging, fitness plan for me. The exercise plan has evolved as I become more fit. I have lost 45 pounds. I have been working out at The Body Firm for two years now -- AND I LOVE IT!! The personal attention and help I get is wonderful and better than any personal training situation I have experienced (I have worked out with several personal trainers over the years). The trainers at The Body Firm are all very knowledgeable, interested in their clients' fitness and nutrition goals, and willing to help in any way they can to make my workout experience more productive and enjoyable. I enjoy going to the Body Firm on the days between my workouts (I work out with Sandy 3 - 4 times per week) for cardio exercise. I like the set up at The Body Firm because rarely are there more than 4 - 5 clients in the gym at any given time - it is a nice personal experience and not intimidating like some of the bigger gyms in the valley. I am a 47 year old female and I find that the personal attention I get at The Body firm helps me meet my fitness goals. The trainers are very tuned into each client's personal goals, and they are eager to work diligently with me to help me meet my goals. Every time I go to The Body Firm I find the time enjoyable, upbeat and inspiring! The clients get to know each other and everyone encourages each other to work toward our common goals - fitness, fun and being happy. It is a wonderful place to be a part of and I am so glad I stopped in two years ago when I saw the sign as I drove down Ray Road. I have been training with The Body Firm for approximately ten years. I am a competitive runner and have improved my speed, strength and stamina thanks to their programs. My race times have improved dramatically, and despite having two children within this time, I am 10-12 pounds lighter than before. The Body Firm does not have a "one plan fits all" approach to training and fitness. I'm always given new exercises to motivate and challenge me. The trainers maintain a high level of professionalism through continuing education and are always seeking new and better techniques for improving their clients' well being. I am a 47 year old female and have been training at the Body Firm for 5 years. Each workout meets my personal fitness goals and has helped me become a much healthier person. I have been training at The Body Firm for four years and have had amazing results. I lost 25 lbs. and went from a size 10/12 to a size 6! I have never felt stronger or healthier and value exercise as a great de-stressor. I always have a great workout and a fun learning experience as each session is challenging and creative with correct form being the major emphasis. At age 48 I suffered a serious rotator cuff/bicep injury. This was especially depressing for me because I had been active in "the weight room" since high school and love lifting weights. At The Body Firm, Doug spent extra personal time consulting with physical therapy professionals and studying the best course of action for my particular injury. Through a very disciplined program I was brought back to full strength much quicker than others thought possible. I have been training with Doug at The Body Firm for years. I have to admit that I sometimes wonder if training makes a difference. Occasionally I am away with travel and unable to keep up my regular schedule. During these times, I notice a very perceptible lack of strength and stamina, and then discover both return dramatically once I resume. I appreciate the fact that Doug is extremely interested in seeing me not only train, but train correctly. He takes both his profession and his clients needs very seriously. I have been a client of The Body Firm for several years. Their trainers are very knowledgeable and provide a complete program including nutrition and dietary supplements. Each client is given individualized training according to their needs and physical fitness levels. I have been working out with Doug for 6 years. He has inspired me to stay fit, healthy and enjoy working out. I had cancer in 1998 and thanks to my doctor and the wonderful guidance from Doug on fitess, diet and weight control, I have stayed healthy. Doug is a role model and encourages diversity of exercise, good but balanced nutrition and always supports me in everything I do.
