The Body Firm - Personal Training

TITLEIST CERTIFIED GOLF PROGRAM

Factors like strength, flexibility, balance, endurance, nutrition, stability, power, vision and posture all influence the body's mechanics. Utilizing the Titleist physical screening process, we measure your ability to generate and transfer speed and determine the most efficient energy transfer throughout your body. We will isolate any physical limitations, correlate these findings to your swing technique and prescribe a custom-conditioning program.

My Evaluation Findings
MY GOLF FITNESS HANDICAP™: 31.5

MOBILITY

You were able to perform a full deep squat with your arms down, but you had a tough time squatting with your arms elevated. Due to your lack of shoulder and/or upper back flexibility, this may cause you to modify your posture (lift up) during your backswing. Other swing faults that could result are a limited backswing or a flat shoulder plane.

You have limited external rotation in both of your shoulders while maintaining your golf posture. The right shoulder limitation can make it difficult to get your right forearm vertical under the club during the backswing without lifting up out of your posture and can lead to a steep swing plane on the downswing. The limited external rotation in your left shoulder can make it difficult to properly release the club through impact. Swing faults that may result are a flying right elbow, loss of posture, chicken winging or scooping through impact.

It is difficult for you to modify the position (tilt) of your pelvis in golf posture. This is an important skill for being able to transfer energy from the lower body to the upper body in the swing. In top level players, their pelvis tilts backwards almost 20 degrees during the downswing due to the contraction or firing of their abdominals. Your limitation can be due to lack of mobility in your lumbar spine or weakness in the abdominal and gluteal muscles.

You have a limitation in your right hip that is preventing your form being able to bend over and touch your toes. This hip limitation can cause you to modify your original set up posture, as well as limit your ability to load the right hip properly during the backswing.

You have limited flexibility between your upper and lower body when rotating your trunk to the left. This will limit you ability to fire your trunk around your lower body and maintain a good stable posture through impact and your finish.

You have limited internal rotation in both of your hips. This will make it difficult to load properly into your hips and may cause excessive lateral motion verses a good rotary movement during your swing.

You have limited flexibility in your upper spine, chest and rib cage. This may limit your ability to rotate around your lower body and elevate or release the club during your swing.

You have limited flexibility in your lats. This may limit your ability to elevate your arms in the backswing without losing your posture, and may prevent you from releasing your arms around your body through impact and your finish. This is also one of the main reason players lose width in their backswing.

STABILITY

You are having a hard time stabilizing your core with your glute muscles. You tend to over recruit your hamstrings or lower back muscles to help stabilize your lower body due to a weakness or inhibition of your glutes. This can make it difficult to stabilize your posture during your swing or limit the amount power you can produce in your lower body.

The muscles that help create good lateral stability in your golf swing need to be stronger. Weakness here can lead to excessive lateral motion in either direction (sways and slides) or avoidance of one side due to instability.

You have lost some mobility and strength in both shoulders. This can lead to loss of width, loss of posture and limited range of motion in the shoulders during your golf swing.

BALANCE

It is difficult for you to balance on either leg with your eyes closed. This is due to a loss of proprioception, which is the ability to sense where your body parts are in space using your nervous system. This can cause problems with balance, stability, tempo, rhythm, and timing.

The MYTPI program is intended for golf performance improvement. The physical evaluations and exercise programs suggested here are developed based on the assumption that you are in reasonably good health and are not intended for injury rehabilitation. The MYTPI program is no substitute for individualized medical advise. You should consult your doctor before you begin this or any exercise program.

The physical evaluations described here require you to perform various movements to help you to understand where you might have relative strengths or weaknesses. If you feel pain, discomfort, out of breath or dizzy during any of these physical evaluations, you should consider that an "Incomplete" test and move on to the next evaluation. You should stop exercising if you feel pain, discomfort, out of breath or dizzy while performing any of the exercises described here.
